Byron Bay is one of those special places that has the pefect combination of coastal and hinterland. There are many National Parks and reserves to explore, as well as pristine secluded beaches to enjoy.
Arakwal National Park
The park runs south along Tallow Beach from Cape Byron and home to the Cibum Margil Swamp .
Cape Byron Headland
Famous for being the most easterly point of the Australian mainland and recognisable for its stunning white lighthouse. A 5km walking track leads from Watego's Beach up the headland to the lighthouse and back, allow plenty of time as it is a hilly course and you will need to stop several times to admire the magnificent views. The beautiful clear sea allows you to view dolphins, turtles and stingrays and during the Winter migration you can even catch sight of Humpback whales |
Broadwater National Park
This park is 3,600 hectares with eight kilometres of it being coastal. Located 66km from Byron Bay it is a great park for bushwalking and picnicing.
Broken Head Nature Reserve
This is one of the rare places where the rainforest really does meet the sea, and in between is a pristine beachfront. Located four kilometres South of Byron Bay it is the only place where camping is permitted in the Reserve.
Brunswick Heads Nature Reserve
A combination of beach, estuary and littoral rainforest.A good place for walking, swimming and fishing, it also has a picnic area.
Mount Warning National Park
The 1100 metre Mount Warning can be climbed. The walk takes about five hours and there is an alternative 500 metre stroll to a viewing platform looking out over the rainforest. Mount Warning is located approx.70km from Byron Bay and was dedicated as a National Park in 1966 and was included in the World Heritage Listings in 1986.
Nightcap National Park
This park of 4,000 hectares is approx 90 km from Byron Bay.Highlights are Minyon Falls which has a 100 metre waterfall, mountainous bush trails and walking tracks with a subtropical rainforest feel.
Julian Rocks Marine Reserve

Tyagarah
This nature park is coastal and has eight kilometres of pristine white beaches which are very secluded and are clothes optional. To reach turn off the Pacific Highway at Grays Lane, 10km North of Byron Bay.
